Louella and I had both been regular riders at our local equestrian centre yet we ‘d never met! Mutual friends had pointed her in my direction, so she called me and asked if I could take some family photographs before her teenage daughter returned to school in New York. After chatting, I knew she wanted a relaxed, outdoor shoot, to make them feel at ease. I met her, and her lovely family close to their home in Tidenham, just outside Chepstow. We included the pet dogs too as they are also a huge part of the family! Like most of us when we are on the wrong side of the lens, everybody felt a little bit shy to start off with. The dogs were over excited, and the clouds threatened rain! But it didn’t last too long. Once they realised there were no games to be had, the pets quietened down, and everybody started to laugh, as I got them walking through the neighbouring wheat field to make things look more natural. Lifestyle photography is challenging, when you are up against changing weather, and the differences in lighting it can bring, but we thought it was great when that sun burst through. It enabled us to get the lovely summer outdoor photographs that Louella has asked for. I really love what I do. I get to meet some great people.
