I love horses, it’s such a treat to be commissioned to cover a portrait session of your much loved horses and ponies. As a previous owner myself, I know just what to look for. I understand the bond, and the depth of the ties we have with these wonderful animals. They become our friends, confidantes, team mates, and family members. Their personalities, traits, and expressions as diverse and as varied as you could imagine. I know how we want to have memories that not only last forever, but that capture every individual characteristic. I’ll bring my equipment to your stables or yard, and work with you to ensure we capture everything perfectly and totally enjoy the process too. I took these in Devauden near Chepstow, three beautiful horses that shared the same fields and stables at their owners home, a beautiful area overlooking the Monmouthshire valleys, with The Skirrid looking wonderful in the distance. Although we had a beautiful day in a wonderful late summer setting, I felt the dark background helped to compliment the colours of the horses summer coats, one chestnut, one grey, and one bay. A challenge to light them with their different colours, both their owners and myself loved these, and the “painterly” feel I achieved, ensuring we have classic portraits that will not date.
