Helen and Sean had the most lovely wedding day in Chepstow at the Catholic Church in Bulwark and afterwards at Saint Pierre near Mathern.
I was concerned when I saw how awful the weather was in the morning. I stopped at the golf club before I got to the church to take photos of the outside of the wedding venue while there was a lull in the torrential rain, in case I couldn’t get any outside later in the day. Luckily the rain disappeared, and right on time the sun came out and shone all afternoon, making it a beautiful crisp winter wedding day.
I arrived at the church in Bulwark in time to capture Sean and the groomsmen greeting the guests and taking part in a group buttonhole attaching moment. Everybody seemed chilled and relaxed, and the church itself looked so pretty and festive, adorned with Christmas decorations and a wonderful Nativity scene at the altar.
Helen arrived with her father and bridesmaids looking stunning in a vintage style beaded wedding gown, that was just perfect on her slender frame, and her hair pinned up in victory rolls. The bridesmaids wore classy navy. Of course, every wedding is complete with a sweet flower girl, especially when she has a super cute winter bolero jacket to keep her warm !
A moving wedding service is always a good place to catch a few happy tears and emotional faces, but this soon turned into smiles and laughter, and after showers of confetti that fortunately stayed dry, instead of wet and soggy from rainfall, we made our way to Saint Pierre, the venue chosen for the wedding reception.
It couldn’t have looked any more Christmassy. Each room was filled with Christmas trees, and the hotel lobby even had a real gingerbread house decorated with sweets!
I’m so thankful that the sunshine stayed with us for the whole afternoon, allowing me to shoot some beautiful portraits of the bride and groom in the winter sunshine, in spite of the fact Helen had to keep popping on a warm coat to stop the goosepimples!
I always feel thrilled when a couple asks me to make the memories of this most special of days. And I’d like to thank the new Mr and Mrs Picton for asking me to share in their celebration. Wishing them so much love and happiness for the future.
